The Galician company Prosistemas, specialised in building large floorings in High Planimetry, has just received the Golden Trowel Award 2016 in the USA for a project carried out in Girona for Tavil, a manufacturer of packaging lines. The project was an 8,000 square metre elevated slab which, in addition, has beaten every historic record in Planimetry in its category, establishing a new world record.

To measure off the Planimetry of flooring, two parameters are considered: the general levelness of the project (the larger the surface, the more technical difficulty) and the lack of unevenness and roughness throughout the floor. The measurement system that determines both parameters is called ASTM. In the case of the award-winning project, the record measurement obtained is FL 91.1 and FF 91.7.

A 33,000 square metres sill, which achieved the fifth best recording ever in Planimentry, has also received the Special Mention of the jury.  It is also noteworthy that this sill was designed and built with earthquake-resistant features, so that the flooring acts as bracing to withstand the entire structure of the building in case of an earthquake.

Prosistemas competes with large building and engineering companies from all over the world for the Golden Trowel Award, but particularly with US companies as this is the country that has done more research on the construction of floors known as High Planimetry: ultra flat floors and with special characteristics (abrasion-resistent, rotproof, non-adherent, luminiscent, for  decorative design, etc.) that nowadays are essential for logistical or commercial centres that generate internal traffic of goods or high rack storage. Only in those particularly flat floors that have no reliefs can one operate with fittings that rise as high as 20 or even 40 metres high, under current trend.
This Galician company has specialised in solving great technical challenges of concrete flooring, ranging from a floor to withstand ultra-heavy vehicles of the MoD to a hospital floor that does not generate dust and that is resistant to chemical agents or, more recently, the flooring of a state-of-the-art factory with particular joints –they must absorb the expansion of the flooring but without any air circulation- that will facilitate the internal traffic of the parts on board a fleet of futurist hovercraft vehicles.

In 2014 Prosistemas made big news at international level in the sector when it became the first European company to win the Golden Trowel Award for a magnificent 60,000 square metres jointless flooring. At one point, it also beat the world Planimetry record in the over 10,000 square metres category.

The Golden Trowel Award is awarded every year by the US engineering company Face Companies, which gives the prizes at the beginning of the year on the occasion of the World of Concrete, the most important concrete fair in the world, held in Las Vegas.

Prosistemas is led by Eusebio Rey who, for over thirty years, has researched concrete pathologies and production techniques, as well as considered the applications of concrete in industrial, commercial and decorative floorings. He is regarded as an authority in this field by the Engineering and Architecture universities, where he often gives lectures on his area of expertise. Prosistemas specialists use state-of-the-art equipment, such as laser spreaders or Dipstick inclinometers, and also have a lab where tailor-made cementitious compounds with special features are studied and developed for each technological challenge.
